Namada Phase 5 is complete. IBC is live. Listings are rolling out. But behind the scenes, the validator community is sounding alarms on economics, infrastructure, and transparency. This week’s recap breaks it all down.
NAMADA Ecosystem Updates This Week
Ecosystem updates
Namada has crossed another milestone with Phase 5 now complete and NAM live on several markets. Development continues at full speed while community discussions shape the road ahead.
Phase 5 Finished, IBC Transfers Now Open
Phase 5 is officially closed with external NAM transfers activated through IBC. Users can move NAM to apps and chains such as Osmosis by connecting Keplr in Namadillo, selecting “IBC Transfer,” and submitting a withdrawal. The full launch blog post confirms that the mainnet rollout is complete and invites newcomers to try shielded transfers using the quick-start guide. With transfers settled, the spotlight turns to shielded rewards, the final element promised during mainnet planning.
NAM Lists on MEXC, Osmosis, and Other Venues
Market accessibility expanded sharply this week.
MEXC opened NAM deposits and will begin NAM/USDT trading on 19 June at 10:00 UTC. An Airdrop+ campaign offers 500 000 NAM and 50 000 USDT to early participants.
Osmosis now features a liquidity pool for NAM, giving IBC users a direct swap venue.
Earlier listings on KuCoin and Gate.io went live on the same date, creating multiple entry points for traders who prefer centralised exchanges.
Christopher Goes framed the free market launch as an antidote to low float token economics, emphasising that the entire supply is already liquid and there are no lock-ups or hidden deals restricting participation.
Community Spaces and Events
Launch-party X Space. Community host @awasunyin gathered core contributors including Adrian Brink, Gavin Birch, Zaki Manian, Valar Dragon, Kevin Owocki, and others to discuss Namada’s past, present, and next growth avenues. Replay.
Mad Scientists × Shield Squad Round 2. A follow-up space is set for 25 June at 18:00 UTC to explore privacy research and developer tooling.
KuCoin Fireside Chat. The exchange will host a live session with Namada, distributing 40 000 NAM to listeners who complete simple social tasks.
Engineering Priorities After Launch
Core engineers shared an extensive roadmap for near-term work:
Infrastructure scale-up. Heliax is deploying production-grade RPC and indexer nodes to relieve community-run infrastructure that was strained by the Thursday token launch. Completion is expected within weeks and should restore fast block look-ups in Namadillo and partner dApps.
Phase 4 re-enable. Testing is under way on the migration proposal that will restore shielded rewards. Once internal reviews finish, the proposal moves on-chain for a community vote.
IBC Eureka integration. Housefire testnet trials are bringing Namada its first EVM access path, widening asset and application reach.
CosmWasm compatibility. Work is in progress to support smart-contract deployments that will bridge Namada to Ethereum, Solana, and additional networks.
Next hard fork. A consensus-breaking upgrade is being planned on GitHub and is slated for delivery in the coming months.
Namadillo v2. The wallet is being redesigned to include shielded swaps and better stability, especially around indexer outages.
Governance and Community Dialogue
Gavin (@_luminara) addressed community concerns in a Discord announcement, noting that Namada’s liquid supply model can feel challenging during early price discovery but offers transparent alignment between builders and holders. A new PGF proposal aims to reward validators and infrastructure contributors, while forum threads continue to refine validator incentives and roadmap communication cadence.
Validator Discussion Highlights
Clarifying IBC-Enabled Chains and Wallet Compatibility
Participants sought clarification on which chains NAM could be transferred to once IBC support goes live. There was concern about usability if wallet support is missing on the destination chain. It was clarified that IBC transactions are independent of wallet support, though lack of wallet integration could create user experience issues.
AppHash Errors and Snapshot Recovery
AppHash mismatches persisted, with users applying fresh snapshots to resolve them. These issues affected upgraded versions like 101.1.1
and reinforced the need for robust synchronization tools.
Infrastructure Costs and Validator Sustainability
There were debates over the high cost of running validators, indexers, and relayers with insufficient returns. Some participants joked about using cheap VPS providers like Contabo, while others advocated for professional infrastructure and sustainable funding.
Concerns Over NAM Utility and Token Economics
A major discussion emerged around the lack of sustainable demand for NAM. Contributors proposed requiring NAM for all transaction fees, offering higher MASP rewards for NAM, implementing fee burning, and launching liquidity incentives. Others warned of systemic failure if the economic model isn’t fixed.
Proposed MASP Auctions and Selective Integration
A new idea was introduced to create MASP auctions where projects compete to get their assets integrated into the shielded pool. This would involve buying and burning NAM, creating utility and demand instead of providing free access.
Calls for Communication and Funding Transparency
Growing frustration was expressed about perceived silence from the Namada team amid worsening validator economics and low NAM price. Contributors demanded public communication, updates, listings on CoinMarketCap, and more marketing and media efforts.
